PR SEO: how to increase organic traffic with earned coverage
How to turn press coverage into rankings and revenue — the PR SEO workflow we run for UK, US and Polish brands.
PR SEO is the practice of designing press activity so that the coverage it earns also improves search performance. Not coverage first and links as a happy accident — links, entity signals and rankings planned into the campaign from the brief onwards.
Done well, it compounds: every placement adds authority to pages that already convert, so the same PR budget produces both short-term visibility and a permanent lift in organic traffic.
Why most PR never shows up in search
- 01Coverage links to the homepage, or to nothing at all, so commercial pages gain no authority
- 02The story has no data, so publishers have nothing worth citing later
- 03Announcements are timed to internal milestones rather than to search demand
- 04Nobody maps target keywords to the pages the campaign is supposed to strengthen
The PR SEO workflow we run
- 01Pick the money pages first — category, service or product pages that already convert
- 02Choose the keyword cluster those pages should own in each market (UK, US, Poland separately)
- 03Build a story with proprietary data or a strong local angle that journalists can cite
- 04Pitch with an asset — a chart, a table, a calculator — that makes linking the easiest option
- 05Point links at the money pages and their supporting content, not the homepage
- 06Measure referring domains, keyword movement and assisted revenue, not clip counts
"A link is only valuable if it lands on a page that can turn a visitor into a customer."
What good looks like after 90 days
For Goddiva we ran exactly this workflow across UK fashion and lifestyle press: data-led seasonal angles, links routed into category pages, and content refreshed around the terms those pages were closest to ranking for. The outcome was a durable increase in organic visibility rather than a spike.
Cross-border adds one more constraint. Polish and UK publishers reward different proof, so the dataset gets cut twice and the anchor pages differ per market. Treat each language as its own PR SEO programme.
